After the dismal performance of Vishwaroopam 2, actor-filmmaker-politician Kamal Haasan is gearing up to commence work on Shankar’s Indian 2, which will be bankrolled by Lyca Productions on a lavish budget.

On Haasan’s 64th birthday last month, it was officially announced via a video that Lyca Productions will produce the highly anticipated sequel to Shankar’s Indian. However, neither Lyca nor Shankar are yet to officially announce the rest of the cast and the crew.

The industry grapevine is that the principal shooting of Indian 2, which will mark Haasan’s return as the octogenarian vigilante Senapathy, will commence from December 14.

Over the last few weeks, rumours were making the rounds that Kajal Aggarwal has been signed for the project. At the pre-release event of her Telugu Kavacham on Sunday, Kajal made it official that she has a film with Kamal Haasan next.

She went on record and said that her next film will be with Kamal Haasan. However, she didn’t mention if it will be Indian 2, but it’s safe to assume that it can’t be any other project as Haasan hasn’t signed any new film. Not long ago, it was rumoured that Nayanthara has been signed as the leading lady but now it has been clarified she’s not part of the project.

In preparation for his role, Kamal will work closely with a team of international trainers to shed weight in the highly anticipated sequel to 1992 blockbuster Indian, which featured Haasan in dual roles as father and son.

This film will have music by Anirudh Ravichander who is also composing for Rajinikanth's Petta.  Kajal currently awaits the release of Pari Paris which is the Tamil remake of the popular and successful Hindi film Queen.
