The race at the top of the heap for leadership in the smartphones segment is indeed heating up thick and fast. And MWC 2018 is providing the right platform. After the 2 South Korean giants, Samsung and LG unveiled their flagships, it’s the turn of Sony to come out with its latest Xperia range, the Sony Xperia XZ2 and the Sony Xperia XZ 2 Compact.

As you would have expected, the optics and audio departments are the top features. A lot of improvisations have been brought in design aspect as well.

The specifications and features have been maintained the same in the 2 variants with only a few differences. Of course, the size of the display is different; while the Sony Xperia XZ2 comes with a 5inch display, the one on the Xperia XZ2 Compact is 5.7 inches. Both are full HD+ displays. Sony has also taken to the minimum bezel display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 to the screen. HDR support and BRAVIA and X-reality technology are the other additional features the 2 latest Xperia flagships receive.

Protection to the screen is through the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 in the case of the Xperia XZ2 and a polycarbonate anti-scratch grade coat on top in the XZ2 Compact.

Competing with the top phones being lined up this year, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC will be the processor on these phones and an X20 LTE modem being integrated means that one can expect the phones to provide up to 1.2Gbps speed in connectivity.

As mentioned, for audio, there are the front mounted stereo speakers backed by Sony’s S-Force Front Surround sound technology. In addition, there is Dynamic Vibration System to analyse the audio data and make the overall hearing experience for the users immersive. Not stopping at this, Sony has also equipped the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact with High-Resolution Audio capabilities with its unique technology.

Coming to the camera section, both the new flagship smartphones have been equipped with identical 19MP sensors in the rear and a 5MP sensor in the front. An updated Motion Eye technology enables 4K HDR recording of movies. This is considered a first ever feature seen on smartphones. The devices are also capable of slow motion recording in full HD.
