Actor Dileep became emotional at a public function explaining that he had no role in the abduction and alleged rape of a popular Malayalam actress.

There were reports that some ‘prominent actor’ had given a quotation to Pulsar Suni - prime accused in the case - to attack the actress. Earlier Dileep had posted on Facebook that he was not the ‘prominent actor’.

On Sunday, at the audio launch function of Dileep’s new film Georgettan’s Pooram in Thrissur, the actor said that a conspiracy was hatched against him to tarnish his image. He also came down heavily on the media suggesting that they had a key role in the conspiracy.

“I am attending a public function after many days. I just have to explain to my people who watch my films. I was shocked at the tragedy that happened to my colleague. I had called her soon after I came to know about it. But two days later, all turned against me. I did not understand what was happening. Later I understood that it was a conspiracy and a quotation against me,” he said.

Criticising the media, he said it was a Mumbai-based newspaper that spearheaded the conspiracy against him. Apparently, an article published by Daily News and Analysis (DNA) on Febraury 20 indicated the involvement of an "actor", without naming Dileep.

“It was started by an English newspaper based in Mumbai. Later, it was taken by other online news portals. Many of the newspapers carried news indirectly mentioning me. Without taking my name, they said in reports ‘prominent actor’. All in Kerala know that they are referring to me. They reported that police had questioned me, but they (reporters) never cross-checked it with me. They did this to taint my image,” he said.

Dileep continued, “I respect women a lot. I was hunted by the media, they never gave a correction even after knowing that I was not involved. Now it is my necessity to find out the culprit in this case. I promise you in the name of Vadakkumnathan (the deity of Shiva in Thrissur Vadakkumnatha temple) that I don’t have any involvement in this case. I just have to say this to you all.”
