Mouth-watering delights for Christmas and New Years'

Christmas is here and New Year is knocking on the door. What better way to celebrate the festive season than gorging on some cake?

Bakers across the country are working round the clock to dish out fabulous cakes that look as great as they taste. 

Customised cupcakes are in demand – from baubles and Santa Claus to Christmas trees and snow flakes, you name it and they'll make it. 

The News Minute spoke to a few bakers about what are the hot-sellers this year and here's what they had to say.  

The Sugar Therapy, Bengaluru 

"Apart from the regular demand for plum cakes, we have been getting a lot of orders for Christmas-themed cupcakes as well," says Diya Jojan of The Sugar Factory.

Some of the most popular flavours include chocolate chip and chocolate fudge. Depending on the flavour and design, the cupcakes could cost around Rs 100- Rs 120 each. 

Butter Side Up, Bengaluru 

S Sarada of Butter Side Up has also been getting orders for Christmas-themed cupcakes. 

"Santa Claus, Christmas trees and snowflakes are some of the designs that are in demand at present," she says. 

"Since it is the year end as well, a lot of people are buying a large number of cakes to gift to friends and family," she adds.

Chocolate and caramel are the trending flavours. Cupcakes can be ordered in batches of six and will cost around Rs 90 each.  

Supreme Bakers, Thiruvananthapuram

“There has been a lot of demand for fresh cream cakes and cakes with butter icing cakes this time. As we are hours away from D-day, we have run out of cookies for the day already. But new stock is expected to come by this evening,” says Kavitha, sales assistant at Supreme Bakers.

“Any order henceforth would need at least 48 hours before delivery. Our cakes cost between Rs 600 to Rs 900 depending on the size,” she added.

If you are anywhere close to Supreme Bakers on Vizhinjam road in Thiruvananthapuram, don’t forget to try their peanut butter cookies.

Baker’s NEST Cochin, Kochi

Baker’s NEST Cochin on Manpurakkal Road in Kochi this Christmas offers most of the season’s confectionaries.

“Two of the cakes in demand are the chocolate truffle and butterscotch. This Christmas our theme is Poinsettia flowers. We are designing them on all cakes that we are selling,”said Milna, owner of the store.

“We have combo cakes – four layers and six layers and all of them with natural fruit flavours. However, combo cakes need to be ordered four days in advance,” she said.

Deli 9, Hyderabad

Deli 9 offers you wide range of varieties for all the occasions and is for Christmas. So this year Deli 9 is offering many varieties of puddings and pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, turkey's tarts, pies, macaroons decorated in Christmas themes.

They also have Christmas hampers in different flavors like Oreo cookies truffle, Mince fruit tart, Candied pineapple and ginger truffle, mini plum pudding, coffee macaroons, ginger cooked, ginger bread house, white chocolate and passion fruit pound and more.

Pink Cupcakes, Kondapur Hitec City

Pink Cupcakes is offers a variety of customized cupcakes and cakes specially for occasions like Christmas and New Year.

Lil' Delights, Chennai 

This bakery specialises in fruit cakes topped with dry fruits and nuts. They also make fruity cupcakes with toppings, says Sangeetha Cocy from Lil' Delight. 

Cupcakes are available packs of four or six. Each cupcake costs between from Rs.130 to Rs.160 and per kg of fruit cake costs about Rs.1500. 

The Park, Chennai

"We have made about three to four special designer cakes. We have about 15 special dishes in our menu for Christmas. Our special stollen bread is very rich in flavour with all fruits. We also make customized designer cakes but the customer needs to give the order a day early," said Karthik, Chef at bakery of The Park .

The designer cakes cost Rs. 1000 per kg, plum cakes cost Rs. 1300, stollen bread cost Rs. 550 and chocolate pudding for Rs. 350.
