The motion poster of Unni Mukundan’s upcoming film Meppadiyan has gone viral, soon after it was released. Netizens and film personalities are raving about the teaser online. While it makes it clear that the film is based on true events, it is difficult to gauge whether it is a thriller, crime mystery or a period flick. The makers of Meppadiyan have managed to build up the suspense factor with the trailer. Vishnu Mohan has written and directed the film, which apart from Unni Mukundan, also features Kalabhavan Shajon, Sreenivasan and Lena in pivotal roles.

The credits scroll over the mostly sepia toned images of an old-fashioned telephone, typewriter, spectacles and title deed scattered over an office table. Leaning against it is the animated image of Unni Mukundan, slowly blinking his eyes.

The music of the film is by Rahul Subrahmaniam, the editor is Shameer Muhammed and the cinematography is done by Neil D’ Cunha.

Unni Mukudan was last seen in the movie Mikhael. He had an important role in this Nivin Pauly starrer. Nivin Pauly was seen playing a doctor in the neo-noir action thriller and it had Unni Mukundan playing a negative character named Marci Jr.

While the motion poster of Meppadiyan is out and going viral, Unni Mukundan has a number of other films needing his attention. He has Chocolate Story Retold, Maamankam and Chengazhi Nambiar in different stages of production. Chocolate Story Retold is directed by Binu Peter while Chengazhi Nambiar is directed by Sidhil Subramanian. Of the three films both Maamankam and Chengazhi Nambiar are touted to be period flicks with Unni Mukundan having an important role to play.

His belated selection into the Maamankam cast has been much discussed at a time the Mammootty-starrer film ran into a series of controversies, following the removal of actor Dhruvan, and much later, even its director Sajeev Pillai.
