Just a month after its release, South Indian superstar Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan has reportedly become the first Malayalam film to enter the Rs100-crore club.

The big-budget film with a production cost of Rs 25 crores and directed by Vysakh was released on 07 October, and has since garnered world-wide acclaim for Mohanlal’s acting prowess as well as its technical brilliance, especially its excellently choreographed fight sequences.

The makers are yet to reveal the box-office numbers in the UAE, with the film being released in UAE and GCC on November 3. It is reportedly running to packed houses.

The ‘mass film’ that tells the story of man versus man-eaters had a record 600-odd shows on the opening day, with even Rajinikanth’s Kabali and Salman Khan’s Sultan clocking only 425 and 225 shows respectively.

Sharing his excitement, director Vysakh told Asianet News that the entire team was overjoyed at the news. To the question whether the audience can expect a sequel, he replied: "During the shooting of the film, we would often discuss in a light-hearted manner about the possibility of a sequel. But now considering the mind-boggling response, we will definitely think about it, provided we are convinced that we could make a better one than this.”

Liberty Basheer -president of the Film Exhibitors’ Federation- was quoted saying that they had anticipated such a massive response to the movie, based on their reading of the initial support the film had gathered from the masses.

"Yesterday was the fifth Sunday since the movie's release. Despite this, the film is running to a houseful in many theatres across the state," he said.

Mohanlal took to Facebook to share his happiness over the ‘big success’ of his movie.
