Mohanlal - the movie, not the star - was more a family entertainer, than a feminist movie, said actor Manju Warrier, who played the star-obsessed fan in the film. In a recent interaction coming more than two months after the movie was released, Manju spoke about her  role, and about the two stars who have been ruling the Malayalam film industry for decades - Mammootty and Mohanlal.

“It is difficult to determine whether Mohanlal or Mammootty is the best actor since both of them are extremely talented. And also whoever likes Mammootty will like Mohanlal too,” she said, when someone asked if she faced the wrath of Mammootty fans for playing a Mohanlal fan in the film.

“The viewers got what we wanted to convey and the base of the film was its unique script. I have got a lot of positive feedback from the audience which I believe is a great recognition,” Manju added. She also shared the experience of working for Odiyan, an upcoming Mohanlal film. It was interesting, she said, to go from one set where she played a fan of the star to the other where she works with him.

Directed by Sajid Yahiya, Mohanlal was produced by Anil Kumar under the banner Mindset Movies. While Manju Warrier played the central character in the film, it also featured Indrajith Sukumaran, Salim Kumar, Aju Varghese, Shebin Benson, Soubin Shahir and Siddique in pivotal roles. The music was composed  by Tony Joseph Pallivathukal and the background score was done by Prakash Alex. Shaji Kumar cranked the camera for this venture with Shameer Muhammed editing it.
