Mohanlal has joined the sets of the upcoming movie Kayamkulam Kochunni. He began shooting for his portions on Wednesday, February 14, confirm sources close to the film. The film’s other lead star Nivin Pauly had also posted pictures from the sets much to the excitement of film buffs.

In the movie, Mohanlal plays the role of the great robber Ithikkara Pakki, while Nivin Pauly will be seen essaying the title role of Kayamkulam Kochunni, the legendary Robin Hood type hero who stole from the rich to feed the poor. Reports say that Mohanlal’s role will be a short cameo but a powerful one.

The film is being directed by Rosshan Andrrews and produced by Gokulam Gopalan under his banner Sree Gokulam Films. Gopi Sunder is the music composer for this film with Binod Pradhan cranking the camera and A Sreekar Prasad editing it. The shooting for Kayamkulam Kochunni began in Udupi last September and the team is currently stationed in Mangaluru where the shooting is in progress.

It may be mentioned here that a movie on Ithikkara Pakki with the same title was released in the year 1980. Directed by J Sasikumar, the film starred Prem Nazir and Jayan in the lead roles. And much earlier, in 1966, director PA Thomas made a film on Kayamkulam Kochunni under the same title. The film had Sathyan playing the titular role with Adoor Bhasi, Manavalan Joseph and KJ Yesudas in the star cast.

With two films already made on the legendary characters, film buffs wonder what Rosshan Andrrews has in store this time around. Sources in the know, however, say that the director will certainly add a new perspective to the plot that will have the audiences glued to their seats. Well, with Superstar Mohanlal in the star cast along with Nivin Pauly, it should be an interesting narrative!
