The News Minute | July 5, 2014 | 11.44 am ISTCongress MLA Vijayanand Kashappannavar, who is accused of assaulting police officials, the MLA has turned around and said that the police “outraged the modesty” of his wife.According to a Hindustan Times report, Kashappannavar’s lawyer filed an application for anticipatory bail in a local Bangalore court on Friday. The petition said that the it was the police who had “outraged the modesty” of his wife. Kashappannavar has been missing since the incident on July 1. According to Cubbon Park police constables, they had gone to a pub in UB City mall on a tip off that the pub was open beyond the 1 am deadline. When they directed the pub to wind up, the MLA and his associate Somashekar Gowda allegedly assaulted them. Gowda’s primary membership has since been suspended by the Congress for six years. Hindustan Times quoted Kashappannavar’s lawyer S Raikar as saying: “The police hit my client’s wife and that is what triggered the entire incident.” The report also said that the MLA accused the police of trying to extort money from the MLA.
