The former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and eternal superstar MGR will soon appear on the silver screens in a 3D animation film, over three decades after his demise.

The movie titled Kizhakku Africaavil Raju, will see MGR as an animated character ‘Raju’. The puja launch was done on the 101st anniversary of the late Chief Minister and was held in Chennai. Superstar Rajinikanth, who recently announced his entry into politics, made the first clap on the clapboard, while actor Kamal Haasan who has also opened up about his political aspirations, switched on the camera.

MGR essayed the character Raju in his mega hit film Ulakam SutrumValiban. The film’s release was delayed as the then DMK government headed by Karunanidhi allegedly tried to stop its release. MGR, who had just launched his political party back then, announced that he would be doing an action adventure that would be titled Kizhakku Africaavil Raju.

He wished to come back on screen as the same character. However, he passed away before he could fulfill this dream.

The motion capture film will be made by Prabhu Deva Studios and will be directed by Arul Moorthy. Meanwhile, Vels Film International which is bankrolling the project will help bring the hero back to life with cutting-edge 3D graphics. The movie will be directed by A. Arul Moorthy.

The political fabric of Tamil Nadu is inextricably linked with cinema and MGR, then the reigning superstar, spearheaded the long tradition of actors turning into politicians.

It is a widely known fact that the actor used his on-screen persona to build his political image and popularity. Three decades after his death, the desire to see him on screen is still strong among the audience.
