In a shocking video that has emerged on social media, a few locals threw an elderly woman on the beach near Tamil Nadu, apparently on suspicion of ‘stealing children.’

The video, reportedly shot near Kanyakumari, shows a man carrying the old woman to the beach. Other men gather around him filming the scene and egg the man on.

One man is heard yelling, “Drop her, drop her! Drop her into the water! She has not bathed, put her in the water.”

The man carrying her is then seen throwing the old woman in the water and standing over her. Once again, the man off camera laughs and yells, “Mahendra Bahubali”, in reference to the movie where the protagonist carries a large rock.

In other visuals, the same woman is seen tied to a tree and appears to be begging to be freed, violently shaking her head even as she is being given water to drink.

However, no complaint has been registered against the men seen in the video so far.

Speaking to TNM, the Thamaraikulam South police officials said, “The locals had a suspicion that she had stolen babies from the area, so they threw her in the sea as a warning and to induce fear.”

The police official went on to say that the woman was mentally ill. And yet the police have let her go.

“Yes, we brought her here and then she left. She wanted to go to some nearby village, so we gave her Rs 50.”

Just last month in another appalling incident involving senior citizens, the St Joseph’s Hospice in Chengalpattu, which transported a corpse and two elders along with vegetables, was ordered to be shut down. It later emerged that there were complaints in the past against the hospice, with some residents of Palaswaram raising questions over its functioning, alleging that the organisation was involved in an illegal organ trade racket using the elderly housed there.
