Martyrs are always party workers not leaders: Sreenivasan slams Kerala’s violent politics

Coming down heavily on Kerala’s politics of violence, Malayalam film actor Sreenivasan has said that martyrs are born only in the families of party workers but not in any leaders’ house.

While speaking at a book release function in Thrissur on Sunday, the actor said Keralites were fed up with the kind of politics that produces martyrs.

He said that martyrdom is a trick used by political leaders to secure power and make money. Sreenivasan, a native of Kannur district - a hub of violent politics in Kerala and a place infamous for political killings - said, “I was born in Kannur. There were no big factories and industries in Kannur so we started a cottage industry, country bomb manufacturing. All day we make bombs, at night we blast it. The opposite party also do the same,” he taunted.

He also reminded that in flexes where political parties print the name and photographs of their martyrs for publicity, one could find only party workers’ name on it, but not that of leaders.

“The leaders of all political parties are on friendly terms. But they teach hatred among party workers. Leaders even invite other party leaders for their personal functions. Theft is the main aim of all political parties,” he said.
