The News Minute| January 21, 2015| 7.00 pm ISTHas Malayala Manorama's limited coverage on allegations that Kerala's Finance Minister K M Mani took bribe from bar owners, exposed the media group's bias asks a Malayalam news portal South Live. The Malayalam news portal South Live alleges that Manorama is deliberately turning a blind eye to one of the biggest scandals in Kerala politics, in spite of being the 'most circulated daily in Kerala'.The bar scam related controversies, especially the telephone conversations released by Biju Ramesh- whistle blower in the 'bar bribe' case was lead news story for all media houses on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. But South Live, a portal run by senior journalists, has questioned Manorama for giving it least importance and instead making Run Kerala Run (RKR) the mass run event in which Manorama group was the media partner the lead story for two days.On Monday allegations against the Finance Minister by R Balakrishna Pillai one of the founders and senior most leaders of the United Democratic Front had to the fore. Though this was a huge controversy, the Manorama Thiruvananthapuram edition carried the story as a banner news item on Page 3.South Live points out that even on Wednesday, when all other papers were full of details of new allegations against the Finance minister, Manorama played it safe.“Those shocking revelations included that KM Mani had a currency counting machine at his home. But Manorama was filling columns with Run Kerala Run and school youth festival snippets,” the report alleges. The story was carried as a snippet under 'TV news'. South Live has also opined that the news paper which used to 'celebrate' minor corruption controversies has become tight-lipped about cases against K.M Mani and Chandy.
