In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old man was bludgeoned to death in Kerala’s Thrissur after he confronted another man who allegedly stalked and sexually harassed his cousin.

Sujith, son of Puthukkattil Venugopal and Aruna of Korumbissery, confronted 28-year-old Pathazhakattil Midhun a native of Padiyur, who had allegedly been stalking and harassing his cousin. Midhun, an auto-rickshaw driver, was furious that Sujith would question him, and decided to assault him, according to the police.

According to reports, Midhun proceed to hit Sujith on the head with an iron bar, kicked him in the chest, and banged his head on the ground after Sujith collapsed on the road.  

The incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Sunday near the municipal bus stand in Irinjalikuda, Thrissur in full public glare.

Sujith was hospitalised after the incident at Thrissur District Co-operative Hospital and died on Wednesday around 12.45 am.

“The incident occurred around 5.30 in the evening. The deceased had an argument with the accused over harassing the former’s cousin. He was hospitalised and was under treatment and died on Wednesday,” confirmed a police official.

“We have registered a case against the accused based on the deceased’s father’s statement. The accused is absconding and police officials have launched a statewide hunt,” the officer said.

In the statement, Sujith’s father said that Sujith was beaten by the accused intentionally to murder him.

Irinjalikuda police have registered a case against the accused under IPC sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 307 (attempt to murder).
