In an incident that sent shock waves in the Madras High Court premises on Tuesday, an advocate was attacked in his chamber by his son following a family dispute, say Chennai police officials.

55-year-old Manimaran was in his chamber when his son Rajesh came there. The two started arguing and Rajesh suddenly took out a sickle and slashed at his father, injuring him severely.

Hearing the commotion, people around rushed to the scene and apprehended twenty-six-year-old Rajesh, while Manimaran was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

Jinu J, an advocate working at the Madras High court, who witnessed the incident said that only a part of the court premises is under the CISF security. He demanded that the entire court campus should be brought under the CISF security. He also noted that protection is only provided to judges and not to advocates, which is discriminatory.

Another advocate also alleged that Rajesh, the advocate’s son from his first wife, hacked his father out of frustration as he was not taking care of his family

Doctors say Manimaran is in a stable condition. Rajesh has been taken into police custody but no one from the family has filed a police complaint.
