Tamil Nadu police arrested a textile shop owner on Monday in Karaikudi for allegedly pasting a picture of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on an undergarment and sending the picture to his friends on WhatsApp.

The accused, G Saravanan (43) was produced before the Judicial Magistrate’s court later on the day and was remanded to judicial custody.

He was arrested following AIADMK town secretary S Meyyappan’s complaint to the local police.

The police have booked the accused under Section 346 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act and Section 3 of Harassment of Women Act.

According to police, Saravanan had no political leanings and was provoked by media reports that AIADMK supporters insisted that the relief material should be distributed in Chennai only with the portrait of the Chief Minister.

Previously, on Saturday it was reported that citizens and volunteers were being forced to stick Amma’s posters on relief material they bought with private charity.
