Elathur police in Kerala on Wednesday arrested a man accused of allegedly stalking actor Parvathy. The actor had last month filed a complaint with the police against the person for stalking and harassing her.

The accused, 48-year-old Kishore Balan, native of Nenmara in Palakkad, was nabbed by police on Wednesday. According to police, Kishore was a habitual offender and has been jailed in the past for cheating cases.

Kishore, claiming to be a lawyer, had contacted Parvathy’s family multiple times through social media asking about her whereabouts. At first, he contacted Parvathy’s brother, but when he started ignoring the accused, Kishore started to bombard her father with messages. While Parvathy was in the United States, Kishore frantically told the family that she was in fact in Kochi and that people were trying to harm her. He also claimed she was part of a mafia. When the family altogether ignored him, he came to her residence and stated to her parents that her life is in danger and that they should intervene to save her from the mafia.

The man has been booked under sections 354 D (Stalking) of the Indian Penal Code and 120 (o) (Penalty for causing nuisance and violation of public order - causing, through any means of communication, a nuisance of himself to any person by repeated or undesirable or anonymous call, letter, writing, message, e-mail or through a messenger) of the Kerala Police Act.

“He is a habitual offender who has been jailed in the past for cheating people. In a case which was registered in Kodungallur before, he was accused of cheating somebody by saying that he was a magistrate of Vanchiyoor court. But in reality, he is only educated till class 10 and does not even have a job,” an officer at Elathur police station told TNM.

Evan after Parvathy had filed the police complaint, Kishore continued the harassment by calling others in the Malayalam film industry and concocting conspiracy theories about the actor.
