Mamta Mohandas will soon be back in the Tamil film industry. The actor, who was last seen in the Arun Vijay starrer Thadaiyara Thaaka way back in 2011, has signed a new film and it is a Tamil flick titled Oomai Vizhigal.

Apart from her acting skills, Mamta is also a talented playback singer, having won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Singer for the title song in the Jr NTR starrer Rakhee. Reports are that she has been signed to play the female lead in a film that will have Prabhu Deva in the lead.

On this, she had tweeted: “Happy to be Back on instagram after 2 weeks and Introduce the new Tamil film I’m doing after 7 years .. Here  Oomai Vizhigal (not a remake of the original title back in 1986) (sic).”

It must be noted that Oomai Vizhigal was one of the biggest Tamil thriller hits of the '80s. The film was directed by Aabavanan and starrred Vijayakanth in the lead role.

The actor began her acting career with the Malayalam film Mayookham, which was released in 2005. She then went on act in films such as Bus Conductor, Adbutham, Lanka and Madhuchandralekha. Her debut in the Tamil film industry was with Sivappathigaram, in which she shared screen space with Vishal. Released in 2006, the film was directed by Karu Pazhaniappan.

She debuted in Tollywood with the Jr NTR starrer Yamadonga, which was directed by SS Rajamouli and then went on to act in movies such as Krishnarjuna, Victory, Homam, Kathanayakudu and King. Mamta’s last release was Carbon, which had Fahadh Faasil in the lead role. She also has a bunch of films in her kitty including Vijay Superum Paurnamiyum, Baby Sitter and Neele in Malayalam and Oomai Vizhigal and Ulle Veliye 2 in Tamil.

Choreographer-turned-actor Prabhu Deva went on to become an acclaimed director with hits in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu to his credit. Though he was seen playing important roles in a few Kollywood films in the recent past, it has been six years since he has wielded the megaphone for a Tamil film. Prabhu Deva’s Mercury is scheduled for  an April 13 release, following which his other movies Charlie Chaplin 2, Yung Mung Sung and Lakshmi will be hitting screens.
