Madura Raja, one of the most anticipated films in Mollywood, will be a sequel to the Malayalam film Pokkiri Raja which hit the marquee in 2010. While Pokkiri Raja had Mammootty and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, Madura Raja will only see the senior actor in the lead. Prithviraj could not be part of the film due to prior work commitments.

The shooting of Madura Raja commenced earlier this month but had to be stalled due to the floods in Kerala. With the floods receding and the rebuilding of the state in progress, the shooting of the film has resumed with Mammootty joining the sets.

A few pictures from the set of the film in Cherai, Kochi have been released online and have gone viral already. Incidentally, the first look of Madura Raja was released online and Mammootty’s stylish look in it has been talked about.

Udaykrishna, who scripted Pokkiri Raja along with Sibi K Thomas, will be in charge of Madura Raja’s script as well. Incidentally, the film'd director Vysakh and  Udaykrishna have worked together in the movie Pulimurugan and have retained the same technical crew for Madura Raja.

Shaji Kumar will be wielding the megaphone for the film with Gopi Sunder composing the tunes and John Kutty taking charge of the editing table. Hollywood stunt director Peter Hein, who had choreographed action sequences in several hit movies, has been roped in for Madura Raja

The film has three female leads, played by Anusree, Mahima Nambiar, and Shamna Kasim, with Salim Kumar, Jagapathi Babu, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others in supporting roles. With the shooting of Madura Raja progressing rapidly, it is expected to hit the silver screens next year.

In the meantime, Mammootty will also be completing the shooting of the YSR biopic in Telugu, Yathra, slated for release early next year.
