Comedian-turned-director Ramesh Pisharody is making a new film with Mammootty in the lead, it has been announced on Kerala Piravi Day, November 1st. The film is titled as Ganagandharvan. The title poster of this film, unveiled on Kerala Piravi Day, has gone viral online. Also, it was played in all theatres that screened Mohanlal’s Drama, which released on the same day at the theatres.

Mammootty has just wrapped up the shooting of the Telugu biopic Yathra in which he plays the late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekara Reddy. Directed by Mahi V Raghav, this film is set for release in December this year.

Besides this Telugu flick, the star also has the Malayalam film Unda for which Khalid Rahman is wielding the megaphone. His other projects in Malayalam are Madhura Raja with Vysakh, Maamankam directed by Sajeev, Ameer with Vinod Vijayan and Amal Neerad’s Bilal.

Ramesh Pisharody made his debut as a director with the Malayalam film Panchavarnathatha starring Jayaram in the lead. Released in April this year, the film was produced by Maniyanpilla Raju under the banner Maniyanpilla Raju Productions. According to trade reports, Panchavarnathatha had fetched its makers about Rs 11 crore within 12 days of its release.

According to reports, the shooting of Ganagandharvan will begin in January next year and the film will release later in the year. Details about the rest of the cast are expected to be out soon.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s Tamil film Peranbu, which is yet to see a theatrical release in India, has been selected to be screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, under the Indian Panorama category. In the film, Mammootty plays a family man – the father of a girl – who ‘rediscovers himself’, according to director Ram. The cast of Peranbu also includes Anjali, Samuthirakani, Anjali Ameer, Vadivukkarasi, Sadhana, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Siddique and Aruldoss. Anjali plays Mammootty’s wife, and Sadhana, the daughter. Anjali Ameer, a transsexual woman from Kerala, is playing a pivotal role in the film.
