The magnum opus Mamangam, with Mammootty in the lead, is one of the most expensive films being made in the Malayalam film industry. The makers would be releasing the first look teaser of the film on September 7, which is also the starâ€™s birthday.
Mamangam is a historical drama that revolves around the life of the warriors known as Chaaverukal, who plot against the Zamorin ruler to overthrow them. The film is based on the Mamangam festival celebrated during the 17th century, in which warriors from different parts of the country would arrive on the banks of the Bharathapuzha to fight against each other to prove their superiority.
It was recently revealed that the film will release in multiple languages. The film is being made in Malayalam and will be released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi languages.
Made on a budget of Rs 50 crore, Mamangam began its production with debut director Sajeev Pillai wielding the megaphone. But due to creative differences with the producers, noted filmmaker M Padmakumar was brought in to replace the director.
The film has four heroines, Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and Abhirami V Iyer in the cast and those playing supporting roles include Unni Mukundan, Neeraj Madhav, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal.
Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh is wielding the camera, M Jayachandran is scoring the music, Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the editing, and Kaecha Khamphakdee is choreographing the stunts. The film is bankrolled by Venu Kunnampilly under the banner Kavya Films.
Mammootty recently completed shooting his portions in Ganagandharvan, a film directed by Ramesh Pisharody. In the film Mammootty will be seen playing the role of a ganamela singer named Kaladasan Ullas, we hear.
Meanwhile, Mammootty and director Ajai Vasudev are teaming up for another project. The film has been titled Shylock and will have actor Meena playing the female lead with veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran also in an important role.
