Mammootty’s ‘Yathra’ and ‘Peranbu’ to release in February 2019

‘Yathra’, the YSR biopic, and ‘Peranbu’, in which Mammootty plays the dad of a girl, are both most anticipated for different reasons.

Come February 2019 and mega star Mammootty’s fans should be in for a treat. Two movies starring him in the lead will be hitting the silver screen in February and both are most anticipated for different reasons.

The YSR biopic, Yathra, is a Telugu film that has Mammootty playing the legendary politician YS Rajasekar Reddy. This film is scheduled for release on February 8th. Directed by Mahi V Raghav, the film has a bevy of stars in the cast including Jagapathi Babu, who plays YSR's father YS Raja Reddy, Rao Ramesh as KVP Ramachandra Rao, who was YSR's closest friend from his medical college days and Suhasini Mani Ratnam as the former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy.

It also has Anasuya Bharadwaj, Posani Krishna Murali, Vinod Kumar and Sachin Khedekar in supporting roles. The film is produced by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy under the banner 70 MM Pictures and its technical crew includes K for music, Sathyan Sooryan for cinematography and A Sreekar Prasad for editing. In this biopic, director Mahi V Raghav will trace out YSR’s political journey and his famous Pada Yatra in 2003 that put him on the chief minister’s chair.

Also releasing in February is the Mammootty starrer Peranbu, directed by the award winning director Ram. The film was premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) and the Shanghai International Film Festival and received positive response which has made its release in India highly anticipated. Interestingly, Peranbu was ranked 20th among the 187 films that participated in the audience award category.

Mammootty plays the dad of a girl in the film. The star cast of Peranbu also includes Anjali, Samuthirakani, Vadivukkarasi, Sadhana, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Siddique and Aruldoss. Anjali Ameer, a transsexual woman from Kerala is also playing a pivotal role in the film.

The technical crew of Peranbu includes Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, Theni Eswar for camera work and Suriya Pradhaman for editing. The film is bankrolled by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films. The film is bilingual - releasing in Tamil as well as Malayalam - considering the huge popularity of its lead star in both these film industries.
