Peranbu starring Mammootty will first premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) this month before its release at the theatres, if everything goes well. A bilingual to be released in Malayalam and Tamil, the film has been directed by the National Award winning director Ram.

While the makers of Peranbu are positive that their film will feature at this prestigious event, the list of films to be screened doesn’t include Peranbu as yet. The 47th International Film Festival Rotterdam is due to begin on January 24th and will go on till February 4th.

Peranbu is expected to join the list of this 10 day film fest soon. According to reports, the IFFR will be a platform to feature the best of the world cinema under four categories: Bright Future, Voices, Deep Focus and Perspectives.

Directed by Ram, who has made critically acclaimed films such as Thanga Meengal, which went on to win three National Awards, Peranbu also stars Anjali, Anjali Ameer and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. Vadivukkarasi, Sadhana, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramood, Siddique and Aruldoss are playing supporting characters. Produced by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films, the film is slated to hit the theatres after its premiere at the IFFR.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for this venture while Theni Easwar had cranked the camera and A Sreekar Prasad has edited it. Anjali Ameer, a trans woman model, was roped in to play an important role in the film and this will be her debut in the movie industry. According to sources close to the team, she was signed on Mammootty’s insistence as he wanted to give an opportunity for someone from the community. In Peranbu, Mammootty plays a middle-class taxi driver working abroad to sustain his family living in India.
