Mammootty starrer Tamil film Peranbu, which is yet to see a theatrical release in India, has been selected to be screened at the International Festival of India (IFFI), under the Indian Panorama category.

Incidentally, Peranbu will be one among the four Tamil movies to be screened under this category. The 49th International Film Festival of India is scheduled to happen in November and will be held in Goa.

Mammootty plays a family man – the father of a girl – who ‘rediscovers himself’, according to director Ram. The film has also been written by him. The cast of Peranbu also includes Anjali, Samuthirakani, Anjali Ameer, Vadivukkarasi, Sadhana, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Siddique and Aruldoss. Anjali plays Mammootty’s wife, and Sadhana, the daughter. Anjali Ameer, a transsexual woman from Kerala, is playing a pivotal role in the film.

Peranbu was premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) earlier this year and then screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival to a positive response which has made its release in India highly anticipated. Incidentally, it is the first Tamil film to premiere in China and has received a good response from the audience. It may be noted here that the film was ranked 20th among the 187 films that participated in the audience award category and was nominated for the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) award.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for this flick with Theni Eswar wielding the camera and Suriya Pradhaman editing it. The film is bankrolled by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films. Peranbu is a bilingual that will be released in Tamil and Malayalam simultaneously.

With the movie being featured in different prestigious film festivals, movie buffs are hoping to see a theatrical release soon. Expectations are that it would release before the end of the year.
