The Mammootty starrer Masterpiece that released on December 21 last year has certainly cashed in on the long Christmas weekend.

According to trade reports, the film has collected Rs 5.11 crore at the Kerala box office on day one and this is a new record! And the film went on to collect Rs 10 crore during the three-day long Christmas weekend run. Royal Cinemas, the film’s producers, have now confirmed that Masterpiece has joined the coveted Rs 40 crore club.

Putting it out on their Facebook page, the producers’ statement read, “Happy to share with you all, our first venture #Masterpiece has done a business of 40cr till now, playing over 13,000 shows #Worldwide. Masterpiece is running at 103 screens and is by far a successful venture for us, which even broke the day one records and show count playing incredible number of late night shows too.”

Directed by Ajai Vasudev, Mammootty plays a cop in this action thriller. Sharing screen space with him are Unni Mukundan, Mukesh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Poonam Bajwa, Gokul Suresh, Maqbool Salmaan, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Mahima Nambiar, Lena, Megha Mathew, Santhosh Pandit and Kailash. Deepak Dev has composed the music for this venture while Vinod Illampally cranked the camera and John Kutty edited the film. Being an action thriller, six stunt directors – Kanal Kannan, Jolly Bastian, Stun Siva, Stunt Silva, Siruthai Ganesh, and Mafia Sasi – were roped in for the action sequences.

The film has been produced by CH Muhammed under his banner Royal Cinemas. Masterpiece opened to packed houses with the film showcased in about 250 screens across Kerala. According to trade reports, the film is still running to packed houses in about 103 screens.

This Mammootty starrer is huge hit in the UAE as well with it being screened in 68 locations there. Reports indicate that the film has crossed over 2,000 shows in that region.
