The 2010 release Pokkiri Raja was one of the biggest hits in the Malayalam film industry. Directed by Vysakh, the film featured Mammootty and Prithviraj in the lead roles with Shriya Saran as the heroine. After eight years, Vysakh announced that he will be making a sequel to the film. The first look of the sequel, titled Madura Raja, was unveiled recently and has garnered the attention of film buffs.

The sequel, which will start rolling soon, will have two heroines. While Anusree has already been signed up, the other heroine is yet to be finalised. Tamil actor Jai will also be a part of the star cast. Reports say that Prithviraj is busy with a slew of films, including his debut directorial, Lucifer, due to which it might be difficult for him to join the cast of Madura Raja. However, there is no official word on this yet.

Udaykrishna, who scripted Pokkiri Raja along with Sibi K Thomas, will be in charge of Madura Raja’s script as well. Incidentally, Vysakh and Udaykrishna had worked together in the hit movie Pulimurugan and have retained the same technical crew for Madura Raja.

Shaji Kumar will be wielding the megaphone for the film with Gopi Sundar composing the tunes and John Kutty in charge of the editing. Hollywood stunt director Peter Hein, who has choreographed action sequences in several hit movies, has been roped in for Madura Raja.

The shooting for this film will commence during the first week of August. In the meantime, Mammootty will be wrapping up the YSR biopic Yatra, in which he plays the iconic leader and late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekara Reddy. Yatra is produced jointly by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi under the banner of 70MM Entertainments. It will be released in Telugu as well as Tamil and Mammootty will be dubbing for both the versions, we hear.
