Actor Mammootty joined the sets of Pathinettam Padi recently, confirm sources. While the film will have a set of newbies in the lead, it has Mammootty in an extended cameo.

Reports are that it is a very important role in the film following which the filmmakers decided to cast the mega star. Mammootty was also impressed with the role and agreed to join the sets. His character is named John Abraham Palackal. He will be on the sets of Pathinettam Padi for a few days after which he will be moving over to his other acting assignments.

On the cast of Pathinettam Padi, we hear that the makers have picked up its lead actors from the 14 districts in Kerala. Besides Mammootty, plans are also on to sign up a few other top stars in Mollywood for guest roles, we hear. The film will be directed by actor and writer Shankar Ramakrishnan and bankrolled by August Cinemas. He has earlier directed a segment called Island Express in the anthology, Kerala Café. He has scripted movies like Urumi and Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s fans are awaiting the release of the YSR biopic in Telugu, Yathra. He will be playing the legendary politician YS Rajasekar Reddy. This film is scheduled for release on February 8th. Directed by Mahi V Raghav, the movie is produced by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy under the banner 70 MM Pictures and its technical crew includes K for music composition, Sathyan Sooryan for cinematography and A Sreekar Prasad for editing. In this biopic, director Mahi V Raghav will trace out YSR’s political journey and his famous Pada Yatra in 2003 that put him on the chief minister’s chair.

Also, Mammootty starrer Peranbu, directed by award winning director Ram, is all set for a theatrical release in India in February.
