Mega star Mammootty and director Aashiq Abu worked together in Daddy Cool and Gangster, and it now looks like the latter will be producing a film under his own banner with the former playing the lead role.
A few weeks ago, there were reports that Soubin Shahir is gearing up to make a film with the mega star in the lead. And now, we have news that this venture will be bankrolled by Aashiq Abu’s own banner OPM.
The groundwork to get this untitled film on the floors has begun already and the shooting is expected to commence next year as both the lead star and director are busy with their respective projects. The team is yet to rope in the woman lead and other actors. However, we hear that another male lead, probably a well-known actor, will also be signed up to play a pivotal role.
Soubin Shahir’s directorial debut was with Parava, which released last year. The film was bankrolled by Anwar Rasheed and Shyju Unni under the banner Anwar Rasheed Entertainments and The Movie Club. Starring newbies in the lead roles, Parava had Dulquer Salmaan in an extended cameo. The film did well at the box office, which has raised the expectation levels for the director’s next.
Though Soubin made his directorial debut last year, he is a well-known actor in the film industry. His acting debut was with the 2013 release Annayum Rasoolum and he has acted in a slew of films since then in various roles. His role as Majeed in Sudani from Nigeria, which released earlier this year, fetched him positive reviews.
With the actor-director all set to wield the megaphone for Mammootty’s film, fans wonder what genre it will be.
The Mammootty starrer Abrahaminte Santhathikal, written by director Haneef Adeni and directed by Shaji Padoor, is gearing up for an Eid release. Mammootty will be seen playing a police officer in the action thriller that also stars Anson Paul, Kaniha and Kalabhavan Shajohn, Narain and Renji Panicker in pivotal roles. Gopi Sunder has composed music for the film with Alby cranking the camera. Abrahaminte Santhathikal is bankrolled by Joby George and TL George under the banner Goodwill Entertainments.
