As the debate on no-confidence motion against the NDA government commenced in the Lok Sabha today, Guntur MP Jayadev Galla moved the motion and invoked the Mahesh Babu-starrer Telugu movie Bharat Ane Nenu in his opening statement.

Directed by Koratala Siva and released in April 2018, Bharat Ane Nenu traces the story of Bharat (Mahesh Babu), a university graduate, who returns to India and is thrust into the role of a chief minister due to the sudden demise of his father.

In his speech, the MP said, “Bharat Ane Nenu is a Telugu blockbuster which is about trust. In the movie, the central character Bharat’s mother tells him that a man always keeps his promise.”

Jayadev further added that the general mood of the people of Andhra Pradesh is well reflected in the movie and the movie became a blockbuster because of that very reason.

He quoted the movie to supplement his point on the empty promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jayadev is incidentally married to Mahesh Babu's sister Padmavati.

Industrialist Jayadev, who joined TDP in 2014, was chosen to open the debate instead of Kesineni.

Interestingly, this was not the first time the MP used a movie reference in his speech. Attacking the BJP, in February, Jayadev said that its the amount allocated to Andhra Pradesh in Union Budget 2018 was less than what SS Rajamouli Baahubali’s box office collection.

While Rs 1,800 crore was given to Andhra Pradesh in Budget, Baahubali 2 collected over Rs 2,000 crore worldwide.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP)’s Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas moved the no-confidence motion in the Parliament on Wednesday against the BJP for not fulfilling the promise to grant special status to Telangana.
