Actor Adivi Sesh’s next outing will be Major, a film based on 26/11 attack hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The film will be bankrolled by Mahesh Babu’s home banner Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu Entertainment (GMB) in association with Sony Pictures Productions. The film will be a Hindu-Telugu bilingual.
On producing the venture, Mahesh Babu’s wife and managing director of the production company, Namrata Shirdokar, said, “Mahesh and I have envisioned GMB to bring stories that resonate globally. We are excited to be able to tell such a unique and original tale about the life of a national hero. Sesh Adivi and Sashikiran Tikka’s honest vision for Major’s story resonated with us. In Sony Pictures, we have found the right partners to bring the incredible story to the big screen for both, Indian and international audience.”
The deal marks Sony Pictures’ entry into the Telugu film industry as well as GMB’s entry into Hindi cinema.
Major is inspired by the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the NSG commando, who saved several hostages during the 26/11 attack at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai and ended up sacrificing his life for the nation. He was awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously, India’s highest military honour in peacetime.
Playing Sandeep Unnikrishnan in Major, Adivi Sesh began his career with Karma: Do You Believe? in 2010 as an actor, writer and director. Some of his notable films are Ladies & Gentlemen in 2015, Baahubali: The Beginning, Dongaata in 2015, Kshanam in 2016, Ami Thumi in 2017, and Goodachari in 2018. It may be mentioned here that Kshanam was a smash hit in his career. He went on to win the IIFA Award for the best screenplay and the Nandi Award for the best screenplay writer for this film.
While Major is in progress, its producer Mahesh Babu will be busy concentrating in his upcoming film Maharshi. Directed by Vamsi Paidapally, the film is about three friends played by Mahesh Babu, Allari Naresh and Pooja Hegde. Maharshi is being produced jointly by Dil Raju, C. Ashwini Dutt and Prasad V. Potluri under the banners Sri Venkateswara Creations, Vyjayanthi Movies and PVP Cinema. The technical crew of this film includes Devi Sri Prasad as its music composer, K. U. Mohanan as the cinematographer and Praveen KL as the editor.
On the other hand, Adivi Sesh is busy wrapping 2 States, the Telugu adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book with the same title. The film marks the debut of actor Shivani, daughter of popular Telugu actors Rajasekhar and Jeevitha.
