Now, one can soon roam around at the Marina Beach in Chennai using free 4G WiFi services which will be set up by the Reliance Jio Infocomm.
The work at the North of Lighthouse has begun with the workers installing the required infrastructure for the services.
Sources told TNIE that the WiFi services will go live in few weeks after the infrastructure is installed in the place. After testing and eliminating bugs and glitches, the services are expected to be launched in 2016.
To use the internet one has to log into jionet.jio.in and enter their mobile phones and it will send a verification code via SMS. After verification, the user can use the internet for 24 hours, as reported in TNIE.
The company has not clarified that it will charge the public or not for this service after the testing phase, according to TNIE.
Reliance Jio has tested its WiFi services in about 150 locations in the country just to provide free WiFi services for the public.
