The police have issued a look out notice for a catholic priest who was booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14 year old in Ernakulam, Kerala. Father Edwin Figarez, a priest with the Lourdes Matha Church, Puthenvelikkara, has been in hiding since April, the High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea earlier in May.The allegation against Fr Figarez is that he sexually enticed a 14-year-old girl several times over a period of four months, usually when she visited him for making confession. According to the police, the mother of the Class 9 student lodged a complaint against Figarez on April 1. Medical examination has revealed that the girl was indeed sexually abused. The priest had reported to SI PK Manoj Kumar and was subjected to questioning, days before the high court dismissed his bail plea.“The accused fled to Dubai on April 2, a day after the girl's mother filed a complaint. When we checked his passport number with emigration sections in different airports, we found that the accused had flown to Dubai from Bengaluru airport,” Vadakkekara circle inspector P K Manoj Kumar, who leads the investigation had earlier informed TNM.However, an Asianetnews report indicates that it is highly unlikely that the priest must have fled abroad, considering that the police have confiscated his passport.
