With the Lok Sabha elections poised to take place during the course of the year, it was bound to be a topsy-turvy year for newscasters across the country.Here’s taking a look at the biggest media stories from the past year:The Reliance takeover of Network 18:A takeover which brought to light corporate interests within the media and after several employees of Network 18 had been laid off, first saw the founder of Network 18, Raghav Bahl leaving the network. Sainath and Praveen Swami quit The Hindu:After Siddharth Vardarajan and M.K. Venu were ousted quite unceremoniously from the newspaper in the last year, 2014 proved to be no less tumultuous at The Hindu. Swami was the Strategic Affairs Editor & Resident Editor from New Delhi while Sainath was the rural affairs editor for the daily. The Deepika Padukone ‘cleavage’ controversy aside, the daily also managed to kill Sachin Tendulkar in print. Oh, and if snooping around Hrithik Roshan’s broken marriage wasn’t enough, there were also ‘hot babes with ugly legs’. Santa feeding monkeys in China was tweeted with the picture of a BJP top brass meeting. It will obviously not help their cause as didn’t the incident of a reporter bungling up at the International Film Festival of India in Goa or the tweet about Chetan Bhagat from the Hindi page, which didn’t impress the author as it questioned that very fact.TV 9 and ABN Andhra Jyothi blocked in TelanganaThe two Telugu channels have been illegally barred by cable networks in Telangana for almost six months now, after the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his party was angry over certain programmes telecast in the channel.
