Actor Lal has posted a Malayalam message on his Instagram page, informing his followers of getting a role in the new Mani Ratnam film Ponniyin Selvan.

In the post, the senior actor and filmmaker writes that he has only asked for an opportunity to ask to one person in his career and that is to director Mani Ratnam. Lal writes that Mani Ratnam had earlier asked him to be a part of his film Kadal but he could not go then due to some date clashes. “But now that dream is coming true. He has called me to play an old soldier in his next film. I am now training in horse riding to prepare for the role,” Lal writes.

Ponniyin Selvan traces out the life of the most popular among the Chozha kings, Raja Raja Chozhan 1. It is about his early life when he was known as Arul Mozhi Varman.

It has already been confirmed that Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Jayam Ravi are officially part of the cast but as per reports the film also stars Jyotika, Mohan Babu, Amala Paul and Keerthy Suresh in pivotal roles. While Trisha Krishnan and Vijay Sethupathi are said to be part of the project. Lal’s post also mentions the names of Amitabh Bachchan and Karthi in the cast.

The film is set to go on floors this month after nearly a year of pre-production. According to sources, the first leg of the shooting will commence in Thailand. The film is expected to be shot across a span of 120 days and the first schedule will last for 50 days.

The film will have music by AR Rahman. Popular cinematographer Ravi Varman, who has worked in films such as Anniyan, Kaatrin Mozhi and Jagga Jasoos, will handle the cinematography of this magnum opus.
