The News Minute| October 2, 2014| 12.00 pm IST The Kochi Mayor is an angry man. First, some websites published stories about 22 foreign trips that he made in just 3 years. Then, many citizens from his city logged onto Facebook and made ‘derogatory’ comments about him on these posts. So what does the Kochi mayor do? He promptly files a police complaint with the cyber cell against the three websites and also submitted a list of people who commented, liked and shared the stories on Facebook. The Hindu reports that the Mayor has called the stories against him ‘fabricated’ and ‘circulated with criminal intent to cause harm and ill repute.’ The Mayor has submitted complaint against three portals - ‘www.e-vartha.in’, ‘TOPNEWS’ and ‘www.marunadanmalayali.com. New Indian Express reports that Chammany has given the police a list running into thousands in numbers, of those who have liked or commented or shared news reports that he claims to have caused him ‘ill repute’. The Kochi Mayor has been in the eye of a storm after reports first emerged that he had undertaken many foreign trips, sometimes with a former Union minister, to many countries including Korea, Italy and Australia. Most of these trips were undertaken to study garbage disposal, reports suggested. The BJP has demanded a probe into the Mayor’s foreign trips that included seven trips to Dubai alone. The New Indian Express quotes BJP state secretary A N Radhakrishnan saying that they were shocked to find that Tony Chammany conducted as many as 22 foreign tours after he assumed office just three years ago. “This means that of the three years as the Mayor, he was out of the city for about 280 days. Even the Minister of Foreign Affairs would not have travelled so much,” Radhakrishnan said
