After her spectacular debut with the smash hit Kannada movie KGF, Srinidhi Shetty has bagged an important role. She has been roped in to play Vikram’s lead pair in his upcoming film, tentatively titled Vikram 58, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu. The project went on the floors recently and the shooting is currently progressing in Chennai.

On signing the film, Srinidhi told Times of India in an interview, “I have been a fan of Ajay’s work. His Imaikkaa Nodigal had me on the edge of my seat till the end. I loved his writing. So I’m glad that I got to sign his film. To add to that, the team includes a star like Vikram sir and has AR Rahman doing the music. It definitely is a big project that excited me.”

Besides Srinidhi Shetty, the film will also have Priya Bhavani Shankar in the star cast. Cricketer Irfan Pathan will be making his acting debut with this flick and will be seen in an important role. In a media interaction recently, the film’s director Ajay Gnanamuthu had said that he had roped in the cricketer for his Turkish looks which is essential for the role.

To be produced by 7 Screen Studio in association with Viacom 18 Studios, Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman is composing the music for this flick with Siva Kumar Vijayan cranking the camera. Reports suggest that this project will be an action entertainer that will have all the elements that Vikram’s fans look forward to. The makers plan to release the film in April 2020.

Soon after wrapping up the Ajay Gnanamuthu directorial, Vikram will shift his focus to Mani Ratnam’s film. This is an ambitious project inspired by Kalki’s classic novel Ponniyin Selvan. The book traces the life of the most popular among the Chozha kings, Raja Raja Chozhan 1. It is, in fact, about his early life when he was known as Arul Mozhi Varman.

The star also has the long-pending projects – Dhruva Natchathiram and the bilingual Mahavir Karna – in his kitty. Vikram’s last release was Kadaram Kondan, directed by Rajesh M Selva and bankrolled by Kamal Hassan’s Raaj Kamal International. The film had bombed miserably at the box office.
