Keralites deported from UAE for propagating ISIS ideals

Two men were from Kochi and were part of a group of around 10 from the subcontinent in the UAE who were found to have participated in IS propaganda
Two Keralites have been reportedly deported from UAE for propagating radical ideas and sympathetic to Islamic State (IS).

The men were reportedly propagating IS materials through social media.

The Indian Express reports that they were from Kochi and were part of a group of around 10 from the subcontinent in the UAE who were found to have participated in IS propaganda.

Intelligence sources told IE that all the 10 were deported and two from Kerala were sent back to India on August 29.

The report says that these men did not traveled outside UAE to join IS.

“The two who were sent back to India have been interrogated by the Intelligence Bureau, and it was decided not to register any case against them. After putting them through some counselling sessions, they were allowed to return to their homes,” the Indian Express quotes sources from intelligence agencies.

The report points out that pro-Islamic State Facebook accounts of Keralites are operated from Gulf countries.

A high level meeting was held in Delhi on August 1 to find measures to tackle this problem. There are also reports that few other Kerala men were also deported from Saudi Arabia for being sympathetic to the ISIS
