The News Minute | June 11, 2014 | 8:$7 AM IST  Kochi police has sought for the ban of whiteners, reason? Many young boys reportedly use the product as a drug by inhaling its fumes. In an application given to the sub-divisional magistrate, Fort Kochi the police sought the ban of the product under the criminal civil procedure code.  However this is not the first time that such a request came up. Narcotics cell assistant commissioner Joseph Saju PM gave a similar request a month ago. The police also have submitted a chemical report to substantiate their stand. The chemical analysis found the presence of titanium and hydrocarbon in whiteners and these are harmful for health, the police said. The sale of the product can be banned under Section 133 (i)(b) of the CrPc. Some senior officials hold that smelling toulene/whitener is the first stage of drug abuse.
