Kerala DGP Loknath Behera has reportedly issued orders to all state SPs to to ensure a high level of readiness to deal with any untoward incidents in the wake of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s critical health condition.

Security was beefed up along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border as the TN CM continued to be critical after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening.

Special security measures were in place at the famed Sabarimala temple that currently has a large number of devotees pour in from Tamil Nadu in the ongoing pilgrimage season that began in November.

The police have cordoned off certain areas using ropes to ward of any untoward incidents in the temple located on a hilltop in Pathanamthitta.

The Kerala Police was also asked to reinforce its forces in the districts bordering Tamil Nadu like Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki and Palakkad.

Popular work and tourist routes to Munaar as well as Thekkady in Idukki that borders Kambam of Theni district in Tamil Nadu have come in for renewed scrutiny to ensure law and order in the area.

Reports say that even though state transport bus services from Kerala to Tamil Nadu are running as usual on Monday, the bus drivers have reportedly been cautioned to turn back in the backdrop of any security issues.

Authorities are monitoring the situation to prevent things from getting out of hand in case of an expected emotional outburst from the neighbouring state.
