Kerala MLA PC George has been booked for disclosing the name of the actress who was abducted and assaulted in a moving car in Kochi in February. The Nedumbassery police registered the case on the basis of a complaint filed by the actress to the Chief Minister of Kerala.

“The MLA has been charged under section 228 A of the IPC (disclosure of identity of the victim of certain offences),” Nedumbassery police told TNM.

The outspoken politician represents the Poonjar constituency in Kottayam district.

Ever after actor Dileep, a Malayalam film industry heavyweight, was arrested in the actor abduction case, George has been insisting that the accused was innocent. George has also been making statements against the abducted actor.

George, the lone independent MLA in the Assembly, had said that he had ‘serious doubts’ on the police investigation in the case, because he found it strange that the abducted actor went to work ‘the day after the crime’.

He even said that the entire case was an elaborate conspiracy against Dileep and that the woman actor lied about what happened, despite medical evidence that she was assaulted.

The kidnapped actor on August 15 wrote to the Chief Minister seeking his intervention in the matter. “MLA PC George, for the past many days, has been passing derogatory remarks against me. Being the CM of our state, I would like to invite your attention to this. I had to go for a shoot very next day which I had committed earlier, but I didn’t go as he claimed,” the letter said.

“What do people like PC George think? I should have committed suicide? Or should I have been dumped in a mental asylum? Or should I hide myself somewhere by not appearing in public,” the letter asked.

When the Kerala State Women’s Commission initiated action against him, George said that he had done nothing wrong. He also spoke out against the woman’s body chairperson, MC Josephine, saying that she was playing politics against him.

Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan said that his head hangs in shame “as such statements came from a people’s representative who are bound to lead society with high moral values.”
