The CPI’s youth wing – AYIF - gave a warm welcome to all the three accused in the case of an expatriate businessman, Sugathan, who took his life after the group allegedly demanded a bribe from him for opening a workshop.

The three accused Imesh, Girish and Sathish Kumar, who were arrested for abetment of suicide, were released on bail on Tuesday. The AYIF welcomed the three accused by garlanding them at Punallur in Kerala’s Kollam.

Speaking to TNM Sugathan’s son Sujith said that his family is losing their faith in the judiciary.

“All this while we thought that police would help us and deliver justice. Now we are starting to lose our trust in the judiciary. How could they let off the accused when there is plenty of evidence against them?” asked Sujith.

Speaking to TNM, he also added that all the help promised from the government and the Panchayat has till date not translated into action.

“They all promised help but nothing has been done effectively so far. We are in so much distress with financial problems worsening day by day,” said Sujith.

Meanwhile, Saji Lal, AYIF state president, speaking to TNM said that this is a false case and giving a warm welcome to the workers who are released on a bail has been a custom.

“It is a custom to receive workers, who are sent on bail, with a warm welcome. Also, this is a false case that is framed against our workers. Sugathan and his family had other issues as well which might have forced him to take the extreme step,” alleged Saji Lal.
