An assistant sub-inspector (ASI), PM Thomas (52), was found hanging inside the Kadavanthara police station in Kochi on Wednesday.

The deceased was also an accused in a case in 2008 which is pending before the Vigilance Court.

The body was first spotted by policemen who arrived at the station for duty in the morning.

They found the body hanging at the back of the station and immediately informed the higher authorities.

A police officer told TNIE, “Thomas came to the station on Tuesday night though he had no duty. He later left the station and returned by 3am on Wednesday. Thomas was named accused in a case in 2008 which is pending before the Vigilance Court, Muvattupuzha. He committed suicide due to mental trauma”.

The trial in a vigilance case in which Thomas was an accused, was scheduled to begin at the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court on Wednesday.

According to the Ernakulam DCP Karuppasamy, Thomas had taken a 13 day leave to attend the trial in the court, reports Deccan Chronicle.

“He was under severe stress. He was worried as the proceedings were open to public. This might have forced him to take the extreme step,” said a police officer at Kadavanthra police station.

Officers have also found a suicide note on the person which said he was falsely framed in the corruption case, added the report.

Thomas, a native of Mulavukad, was posted as grade ASI in Kadavanthra five months ago.

Thomas is survived by his wife Murphi and two children, Nikhil Thomas, a class 12 student and Nimitha Thomas, who studies in class 6.

The body was handed over to his relatives after postmortem and the funeral was held on Wednesday.
