Two days after 30-year-old Madhu, a tribal man from Kerala died after allegedly being beaten up by a mob, the post-mortem report has confirmed that Madhu was indeed assaulted.

The post-mortem report has revealed that Madhu had injuries on several parts of his body, including his head and chest. The report also states that Madhu sustained internal injuries.

Palakkad SP confirmed to TNM that the preliminary post-mortem report the police received states that Madhu was beaten up before his death.

The police earlier confirmed the arrest of two persons and detained five others in connection with the case on Friday. Now, a total of 10 people are reportedly in police custody. Initially, the police had registered a case of unnatural death. However, after receiving the post-mortem report, a case of murder will be registered.

Compensation

On Saturday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for Madhu's family.

In a Facebook post, Pinarayi Vijayan said that he has instructed the Chief Secretary to hand over the compensation amount to the family without delay.

Madhu was cornered by a mob of at least 15 people and was beaten up on Thursday evening after they accused him of stealing rice and other food items from a shop. After he was attacked, the locals turned him over to the Agali police. However, as he was being taken to the station in the police jeep, Madhu vomited and soon lost consciousness. The police rushed him to the hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The incident sparked much outrage in the state, with protests being held in several parts of Kerala. The UDF is observing a hartal in Mannarkad taluk on Saturday.
