If what could be seen as pretty close to a game-changer for southern TN politics, The New Indian Express reports that the DMK is likely to bring back M Karunanidhi’s elder son M K Alagiri into the party ahead of the 2016 Elections.

According to TNIE, sources said that this step was initiated by DMK leader MK Karunanidhi as part of the poll strategy and was mainly to strengthen the party in the south. The plan is said to be discussed with the family members including DMK treasurer M K Stalin.

It is also reported that the M K Alagiri might be taken back before January 30 which is Alagiri’s birthday. Many in the inner circle of Stalin reportedly claim that MK Alagiri’s clout in Southern Tamil Nadu has reduced comparatively in the past few years and few others said that his sulking behaviour could spoil the party’s image.

Another reason is seems is Karunanidhi was worried about the damage that sibling rivalry has caused the party and does not want it to happen again.

TNIE reports that MK Stalin has left the final decision to Karunanidhi.

Amidst this, posters have also appeared across Madurai hailing Alagiri.
