The News Minute | September 6, 2014 | 2.58 pm IST MP Shobha Karandlaje on Saturday admitted that the Karthik Gowda episode had “brought embarrassment” to the BJP. Karandlaje inaugurated a programme organised by the BJP Yuva Morcha and on her way out, she was asked by journalists why she did not speak up on the allegations against Karthik Gowda when she was generally outspoken on women’s issues. The MP replied that the law would take its course and that even on Saturday, a court was hearing his plea for anticipatory bail. She said the court would examine the case. However, she added that there were inconsistencies in the woman’s statement, but reiterated that the matter would be decided by the judiciary. Asked if the BJP was not embarrassed, Karandlaje said: “Yes, naturally, the episode has embarrassed the party. Our government is at the centre and it has embarrassed us. Naturally it has, and it will, be will embarrassing, that is no secret. But there is some (ulterior) motives behind it, and the BJP will look into it (internally).”
