A recent shocking incident from Koppal district in Karnataka once again highlights the need to teach boys how to take rejection.
A man allegedly stabbed a woman and set her ablaze along with her mother after he learnt that she was getting married to another person.
The incident took place on Saturday. The man later attempted suicide and all the three are in the hospital now, with the woman, who was stabbed, in a critical condition.
According to The Times of India, Amaregouda Menedal, who hails from Marlanahalli village, offered a lift to Shahana Begum (25), a junior health assistant, and her mother Kamalabi (50) when they were waiting for a bus in Mudenur village. Shahana were headed to a training programme in Kushtagi.
They accepted his offer and rode pillion with Amaregouda till he suddenly stopped the bike at an agricultural field midway.
He allegedly stabbed the woman and poured petrol over both before setting them on fire. He then fled the spot.
"Shahana used to address him as 'mama'. He was already married. When her marriage was fixed with another man, Amaregouda began persuading her to marry him," cops told TOI.
This case is yet another in the spate of incidents of men attacking women on facing rejection.
Just last week, a man allegedly slashed the throat of a newly married woman in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh when she got married to another person.
In the first week of March, a man attempted to murder a student of a Madurai city college, because she didn't want to be in a relationship with him. The man slit her wrists and neck and later took his own life by hanging himself. The woman luckily survived.
In February, in another horrific incident, a Kerala man set a girl ablaze inside the classroom of Kottayam School of Medical Education and then immolated himself. This because the woman has rejected his advances. Both of them died.
