On Thursday, Home Minister G Parameshwara gave the first indications of his potential as serious competition to his predecessor KJ George. In between, Leader of the Opposition KS Eashwarappa tried to butt in and made a name for himself. But now, it’s 2:1 to Congress. (Janata Dal (Secular) is playing a different game altogether.)
Speaking to the media on the case of a woman allegedly raped by two security guards in Bengaluru’s iconic Cubbon Park, Parameshwara wanted to know that most important of all questions: What was she doing there.
(Let’s observe a two-minute silence for the police all over the country. Their efforts in collecting data on sexual assault have been lost on politicians yet again.)
Parameshwara’s said: “Why does she want to play tennis at 9.30 (in the night)?”
See, we understand that male elected representatives would like to reserve the exclusive right to make stupid remarks, by deferring women’s reservation as long as possible. We get that. Totally.
But there are few questions we have, and we’ll ask them as members of the public until we can make it to the well of the house.
