The personal assistant of a Karnataka Minister has been arrested along with two others in connection with leaking of the chemistry pre-university exam question papers.

CID DIG Sonia Narang said during a media conference in Bengaluru on Monday, that three people namely were arrested. One of them, Oblaraju, is said to be the personal assistant of Medical Education minister Sharan Prakash Patil. He he alleged to have circulated the question paper after he received it.

These developments could add to the heat that the state government has faced over the controversy, when even the re-examination question paper was leaked.

Narang said that the other two people were Manjunath, a PT teacher at Cambridge college in Vijaynagar and an LIC agent. He received the question paper and sold it for over Rs 10 lakh. The third person is Rudrappa, who is an office manager with the public works department. He received question paper from Oblaraju and circulated or sold it to others.

The chemistry exam was scheduled to be held on March 21, but was cancelled some hours after students wrote it as it was learned that the question paper had been leaked. A re-exam was then scheduled for March 31, but it was called off after PU board officials because that question paper too had been leaked, in the early hours of the morning before the exam.

Despite resistance from students and students’ groups to preparing for the exam a third time, the state government has scheduled the exam for April 12, two days after the JEE exams.
