Bangalore's garbage problem has been persistent for more than two years now, the state government and Bangalore City Corporation have been making empty promises, but without much progress on the ground. But now in a sign that they wish to find a solution to the problem, the state government has appointed a special commissioner for Solid Waste Management (SWM).
With the BBMP signing an agreement promising not to send garbage to a landfill near Bangalore city called Mandur by December, it has become imperative to find a solution quickly
The recent protest by villagers at Mandur had threatened to go out of control, forcing the state police to clamp prohibitory orders there.
