Actor Kamal Haasan found himself in the middle of a controversy recently when he tweeted his condolence message for the departed CM of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa.

Kamal had tweeted in Tamil, "My deepest condolences to all those concerned", probably his way of conveying his regrets to everyone connected to Jayalalithaa and who were mourning her death.

However, some people on social media felt that the rather abrupt tweet was in poor taste.

(Then is this a lie?)

Clearly, many have not forgotten the furore around "Vishwaroopam" and the supposed fall-out that Kamal had with Jayalalithaa.

The film had faced opposition from Muslim groups who claimed that it portrayed the community in a poor light. Kamal was left fighting to save the film when it faced a state ban. Jayalalithaa did eventually step in, but many opined that political interests were behind the controversy.

In October, Kamal had tweeted that he was not celebrating his birthday because the CM was in hospital. But people have still chosen to read between the lines.

Kamal's condolence message for journalist and political commentator Cho which he put up on Wednesday is also being compared to what he had to say about Jayalalithaa's death as are some other brief obituaries that he has tweeted in the past.

Some didn't think Kamal had been insulting.

Kamal is yet to respond to this storm in a teacup.
